Our Church History

The New Home Baptist Church was organized in 1890.  Historians revealed that Rev. Rollins and Rev. Johnson, along with several deacons and their families, amicably departed the Old Augusta Baptist Church and built the New Home Missionary Baptist Church.  The old New Home Baptist Church is located on Rifle Range Road.  Our Pastors included:  Rev. Franklin (one year), Rev. Dumas (20 years), Rev. Broadnax (one and a half years), Rev. Robinson (42 years until his death), Rev. James E. Jones (32 years – retired) and our current Pastor, Rev. Lee B. Walker, Jr..  The following recaps accomplishments under our past pastors:

Rev. James Watts was called as Pastor in April 1968 and served until April 1980.  Some accomplishments were:  Membership growth, deacons ordained, Vacation Bible School established, church remodeled with a new annex fully equipped with a kitchen, and installation of new carpet and Bible Class was started.

Rev. Earl Howard was called as Pastor in August 1980 and served until December 1981.  Accomplishments were:  Growth in Sunday School attendance, 5th Sunday Service, installation of new carpet, Bible Class was started, and new deacons were ordained.

Rev. Aaron D. McCall was selected as Pastor in June 1982 and served until July 1985.  Some accomplishments were:  Established a Board of Trustees, organized the A. D. McCall Inspirational Singers (Youth Choir), increased membership and attendance, purchased new piano and public address system, and two deacons ordained.

Pastor James E. Jones was called to serve in February 1986.  Under his leadership, some accomplishments that took place in the old sanctuary were:  Started full time Sunday Service, purchased an organ, reorganized the youth and junior choirs, purchased new  hymn books, reorganized the Missionary Society, resumed Bible Study, installed handicap ramp, replaced floors, pews, pulpit furniture, ceiling fans in annex and Pastor’s Study, installed central heat and air in annex and fellowship hall, hired a minister of music, purchased new piano, keyboard, drums, church van, and property.

Under the vision and guidance of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Jones and the New Home Missionary Baptist Church family built a new sanctuary in 2003.  Summer programs for youth were started, parking lot paved, lighting for parking lot installed, entrance gate and steeple installed, security system installed, new audio-visual system installed in church, various church ministries started including New Members Class, Nurse’s Guild, Pastor’s Aide and Male Chorus.  In 2014 the church broke ground in preparation to build a new family life center.  On Sunday, September 27, 2015, at 2:00 PM that vision became a reality with the dedication service of “Providence” New Home’s new Family Life Center. To God be the glory.

Our current Pastor, Rev. Lee B. Walker, Jr. was called as Pastor in 2019.

He is a Servant of God who is prayerful that God will position him so that His word will lead His people.  Under Pastor Walker’s guidance an additional 600 plus members added…..

What We Believe:

As a Christian, we believe in one God who exists as three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who came to earth to die for our sins and rise again on the third day. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we believe that we can be saved and have eternal life with God in heaven. We also believe in the authority of the Bible as God’s word, which teaches us about God’s love, His plan for salvation, and how to live a fulfilling life in accordance with His will. We believe in the power of prayer, the importance of community, and the responsibility to share the love of Christ with others. As Christians, we strive to live a life that reflects our faith, obeying God’s commandments and serving others as Jesus did.
